Frequently asked questions

How much does a TCA wedding DJ cost?

If you’re considering hiring a DJ to play music at your wedding, keep in mind that the average wedding DJ cost is $1,075. The cost of a wedding DJ varies depending on where your wedding is being held, with most couples in the U.S. spending between $750 to $1,400. Couples are spending more on their wedding DJ nowadays than in past years as they are devoting more of their wedding budget to their guests’ experience, focusing more on music, food and more. Talent City Artists offers DJ Services starting at $1000.

What services do TCA wedding DJ offer?

A Talent City DJ will play music throughout your wedding reception (and your ceremony if you aren’t hiring our amazing live ceremony musicians, and we will also serve as the emcee for the event. This means that we will make announcements at appropriate times, introduce those who are giving toasts, and basically “run the show.” We are not just great DJ's with outgoing and energetic personalities, but also can “read a crowd” and play the appropriate music to ensure your dance floor is packed all night long. Talent City DJs  provide our own audio/visual equipment as well as provide services such as lighting, photo booths, video screens, and more.

What is included in our DJ price?

If you’re feeling some sticker shock at wedding DJ prices, remember there’s a lot more to a wedding DJ’s role in your wedding day than simply showing up to your reception and playing music.

  • Time: Not only does the cost of a wedding DJ include the hours we will be performing at your wedding, it also includes the time it takes for us to prepare for your big day. Before your wedding, your DJ will spend time creating your MUST PLAY & DO NOT PLAY LISTS and a unique script for your wedding. And on your wedding day, your DJ will travel, set up, perform, and break down—note that if he or she has to travel a long distance to your wedding, you may incur an additional charge.

  • Equipment: The last thing you want on your wedding day is for equipment to break—so part of a DJ’s fee goes to purchasing and maintaining the most up-to-date equipment including (but not limited to) speakers, microphones, and more. Onsite back-up as well as a dedicated BACK UP DJ is provided.

  • Music: It’s true—we buy everything you ask for and download real-time if necessary. We bring a Terabyte of music and have lots of songs from which to choose!

  • Operational costs and insurance: These include things like paying rent at our office, business licenses, and marketing costs. All of our DJ's are insured—this protects you, your DJ, and your venue in the unlikely event that equipment is damaged or someone is injured due to your DJ’s equipment.

When should I book my wedding DJ?

Wedding DJs are among the first vendors a couple books. We recommend hiring Talent City DJ's at least eight months before your wedding day. You will meet with your wedding DJ at least once before your wedding date, two weeks beforehand, to discuss your playlist, your timeline, and any other important details.

Do our DJs also provide lighting?

Talent City Artists offers lighting services as well as music, with the starting price for uplighting averaging $250. If you’d like to have TCA provide lighting, there are a few questions we ask before adding this service to your package:

  • Does the venue allow outside lighting vendors?

  • Does the venue have proper electrical outlets throughout the facility?

  • If providing GOBO projection, how high are the ceilings?

What equipment do we provide?

We can provide a variety of equipment, depending on your needs. A typical sound system for a wedding DJ includes a DJ deck or controller, speakers, microphones, and headphones. As mentioned, we can provide lighting as well as video screens and projection equipment in case you want to show a video montage during your reception. There are also some fun extras we offer including photo booths and karaoke machines.

Do you have to tip your wedding DJ?

YES! Gratuity is not mandatory, however it's greatly appreciated when we have done an amazing job. We recommend tipping your DJ between 10 to 15 percent of the total bill.
